Raw Turmeric Chai Cheesecake From My Travels

August 24th, 2016  |  Health and Wellness

Hello there,

Sorry, it has been a while but I am finally back on the blog after the last few weeks of travel through London, France, Switzerland and currently Italy.

I think I must be the only person who travels with a litre of coconut oil, some activated buckwheat and a packet of golden grind turmeric chai in my bag. Admittedly I picked up the oil and buckwheat from Wholefoods in London but the Golden Grind (a few packets of it) came all the way from Sydney and ended up at my friend’s place in the French Alps.

I must confess I had a bit of a love affair with Golden Grind Turmeric Blend before I left Sydney (thanks to the introduction from my cousin Denny). I have been making the MOST delicious Turmeric Coconut Chai, Turmeric Chai smoothies and recently this Turmeric Chai Cheesecake.

You may remember my blog post about Turmeric Cashew Cheese, where I talked about the amazing health benefits of Turmeric Powder. Turmeric isn’t just the latest health fad, it has been used for centuries in the east and continues plays a key role in Ayurvedic medicine, finally, we are catching up in the west. Turmeric is scientifically proven to reduce inflammation in the body. Inflammation plays an important role in the body’s immune function and its response to stress (i.e. it can help us heal). However, prolonged inflammation can cause symptoms such as asthma or allergies. Chronic inflammation has been linked arthritis, Crohn’s disease, diabetes and more.

Back to the cheesecake

My friends in Chatel, France own a gorgeous ski lodge called Chalet Cannelle, which we were fortunate enough to stay at for a few days. Being the middle of summer we were surrounded by lush green mountain meadows, wildflowers and the distant sound of cowbells (interrupted only by the sound of the odd tantrum by my two years old). Andy and Lorraine cook everything from scratch (from bread to ice cream) so I knew their kitchen would be well equipped for me to whip up a raw Turmeric Chai Cheesecake for dessert.

I have decided to dedicate a separate blog about Andy and Lorraine and their journey from the UK to Sydney to Chatel in the French Alps. It is a wonderful story of living your passion and the love of food (two things dear to my heart) – so watch this space.

A word on Golden Grind.

Golden Grind is made in Melbourne, where their creators have managed to blend the perfect combination of turmeric, cinnamon and black pepper to create a spicy caramel chai blend.

(Dairy-Free, Gluten-Free, Refined Sugar-Free)

This nutrient-dense dessert is so tasty it’s personally one of my favourite cheesecakes. It is a healthy combination of nuts, buckwheat, coconut and of course the ‘health saint’ of the spice world – turmeric.

A few pics from our travels…

You may have seen these on Facebook or Instagram but here are a few pics from our travels.

Till next time, stay well.
